Full futons come in different types

Looking for a full futon? There are a number of different choices available to you in both frames and mattresses. After reading this article, you'll be a much wiser consumer, regardless of whether you purchase that full futon online or at your local store.

The full futon currently comes in two basic frame styles. The newer and more popular one is called the bi-fold. With this type of frame, the mattress is folded once right down the middle of the longer measurement.The fold becomes the dividing line between the seat and back of the full futon when converted to a sofa. This type of full futon usually takes up a floor space of 76 to 80 inches by 36 to 40 inches.

The other type of full futon frame is the tri-fold. This is the original conversion frame. It isn't as popular as it once was for a couple of reasons. First of all, it's more difficult and time consuming to convert, as the mattress is folded twice along the short measurement. Once this type of full futon frame is folded, the extra third of the mattress has to be either hung over the back or folded under the seat.

Additionally, this multiple folding limits the thickness of the mattress which can be used. The tri-fold full futon usually uses a mattress no thicker than 6 inches-rather thin by today's standards. However, an advantage of this type of full futon is that it will take up less space than the bi-fold. It's actually more comparable to a loveseat at 54 to 60 inches by 30 to 36 inches

The full futon is also available with a number of different types of mattresses. Mattress materials range from 100% cotton to 100% polyester, with varying combinations of wool, plastic foam, cotton, polyester, and latex in between. There also are now traditional innerspring mattresses available for your full futon. Matress thicknesses range from 6 to 10 inches.
