Home | FutonsIs there any reason to consider a loveseat futon? The Loveseat Futon is actually a variation on the tri-fold frame. The main difference is that the loveseat futon mattress is separated into two sections, and the tri-fold uses a one piece mattress. The loveseat futon mattress is not divided into two equal sections, but rather in a two thirds/one third configuration. The 2/3 section stays on the loveseat futon when converted to a couch, and the 1/3 section is stored. You may be wondering why the designers of the loveseat futon even bothered. Well, there are a few advantages which the futon loveseat holds over the tri-fold. First of all, having just the 2/3 section mattress to maneuver makes it easier to fold up the frame. Secondly, and probably most important, the loveseat futon can use a thicker mattress. Not having to being folded in two places makes it possible for the futon mattress to take advantage of the recent improvements in construction. Tri-folds are limited to about a six inch thickness. Anything appreciably thicker is too difficult to fold more than once.
